SEN League 1st Fixture 6th October 2016

SEN League 1st fixture 2016/2017 vs. Jane Lane School (Home) 06.10.2016

Captain’s Man of the Match: Reuben Johnson Simms

Teacher’s Man of the Match: Kian Swingler

Coach’s Man of the Match: Ben Morris

Match Report

The boys who were involved in the football enrichment run by UEFA A coach Neil Harding were chosen to put what they had learned to the test and represent the school. The game was against a new opposition who joined the Midlands SEN league this season. The coach started with a very structured warm up which got the boys minds on the game and demonstrated how organised they were to their opponents.

The game had a number of highs and some real stand out performances. There was a lovely mix of year groups from year 8 through to year 10 who participated and all of the boys were a credit to themselves, as well as maintaining our fantastic reputation of good sportsmanship and etiquette. The boys showed respect to each other and their opponents by being supportive of good performances and gave praise to the other team when they played well and scored goals. The standout individual who needs mentioning for this behaviour is Bradley Moraghan who, although didn’t achieve a man of the match award, deserves credit for encouraging his opponents not to give up but to keep playing.

The goals were evenly spaced across the two halves of football and, because Jane Lane School had arrived promptly, the boys played a full 60 minutes of game time. Lindsworth scored 10 goals to Jane Lane’s 2 goals.  The goal scorers were:

Kian Swingler - 5

Zac Liburd - 3

Bradley Moraghan - 2

Reuben Johnson Simms did a sterling job in defence, and even had to go off for an injury to his nose, but he managed to get back on the pitch before the end of the game and continued to play exceptionally well. This performance earned him the captain’s man of the match. Coach’s man of the match went to Ben Morris who played extremely well and teacher’s man of the match went to Kian Swingler who managed to score five times, whilst playing his first game as team captain.

A great start to the 2016/2017 season. Well done and let’s hope the performances in the next game are as strong.

On Thursday 29 th and Friday 30 th September we held a two day Macmillan Coffee morning involving Lindsworth School and our federated school, Springfield House. This event saw members of the local community and parents joining us for a coffee morning at Lindsworth School on Thursday, with Springfield House joining us at Lindsworth for a coffee morning on Friday. Pupils and staff baked cakes for the event which were sold to raise money. Other events which took place included:

  • The “Great Lindsworth Bake Off” competition for pupils. We are excited to announce that the winner was Kyle in year 9
  • “Guess the Number of Spots” competition
  • Raffle
  • Wear something green non-uniform day

In total we raised a fantastic £344.05 which beat the total we raised last year. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported the events. The target is set for next year!

Black History Month

October is Black History month and to raise awareness at school we will be looking at sporting heroes, particularly Mohammed Ali and his many words of wisdom. Quotes from Mohammed Ali will be displayed on our school website. Please support us by discussing black sporting heroes with your child.
