Physical Education at Lindsworth School aims to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing in our pupils now and for their future. Physical fitness is an important part of leading a healthier lifestyle. It teaches self-discipline and that to be successful you must work hard, show resilience and have the determination to believe that anything can be achieved.
Physical Education at KS3
The PE curriculum at KS3 gives pupils a direct pathway into GCSE PE in Year 10. Each year group will study practical modules covering the specification for OCR GCSE PE, alongside modules in a number of other sporting activities. By the end of Year 9 pupils will have gained a basic understanding of a number of areas they will study if they opt to study GCSE at KS4.
Organising the Curriculum in this way will allow us to offer a far broader selection of activities and sports to endeavour to engage all pupils in the Curriculum. We will also be able to grade pupils against GCSE practical grading criteria so that they would have an understanding of this by the time they reach KS4 option selection.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities
As part of the school’s extra-curricular offer the pupils have access to a number of activities including the fitness suite, table tennis, basketball and the School Football team. Our team are highly competitive and have participated in the Midlands SEN Football League since 2015. We feature annually in events around this league and any events which occur with other schools within it. As a result, the school also participates in regional tournaments and charity events such as Knife Crime Awareness and Engage in their Future tournament to name just a few. As a department we have played and are always on the lookout for competitive “friendlies” in other sports such as dodgeball, handball and basketball.
In the New Year 2022; we are delighted to be welcoming Moseley Rugby Club coaches in to offer coaching during lunchtimes, and are in contact with AVFC and BCFC community coaches who have worked with us before or look to work with us in the future, to see what else can expand our offer to pupils.
All pupils have access to every aspect of our extra-curricular programme, but the most popular is the school football team. Access is limited so pupils only get the chance if they are engaging in all their lessons and obtaining good behaviour scores, as well as showing a willingness to engage with staff and work hard to develop their football abilities in and out of lessons. Once selected for the team they must stick to the expectations and reputation laid down by all those that have gone before them, and uphold our outstanding reputation as a team, both in the league and any other events we have or will participate in.
When in the school colours they are “Lindsworth Lions” and as Lions they should be: well presented, disciplined, loyal, show support for each other and their opponents, enjoy themselves and express themselves with confidence, whilst showing respect to everyone, playing firm but fair, as well as winning with grace and more importantly, losing with dignity and pride.
Impressively, our pupils very often get the “fair play” or “team of the tournament” awards; for the way they conduct themselves; never swearing or being rude to anyone and always playing with good team spirit, matched by fantastic determination and resilience. For this, we are extremely proud of them and expectations are maintained at the highest standard. Our pupils even more impressively and despite their own difficulties, have always shown great empathy against less confident teams and individuals; all of which we believe is character building and setting them up for a great life after Lindsworth.
